Man charged in serious Stacy crash September 2024 ordered held in treatment facility
The suspect in a two vehicle crash, in Stacy last fall, that injured several people and sent a child to the hospital with life threatening injuries, has been placed under commitment through the courts.
District Judge Trevino has ordered Joe David Campbell, 40, of North Branch to enter a treatment facility for 60 days.
Campbell was evaluated and the courts agreed he has chemical dependency and mental illness issues that must be addressed before criminal prosecution can proceed.
County Attorney Janet Reiter said the six months is required but if later evaluation determines there is more treatment needed, the commitment may be extended. The criminal charges already in process still stand.
Campbell was immediately taken to the hospital from the crash scene Sept14, 2024 and DUI tests were administered. He was charged with felony criminal vehicular operation soon afterward. There were four individuals in the car Campbell’s vehicle collided into, including the 6 year old who was airlifted. The crash happened about 11 a.m. on the west side of the freeway on Stacy Trail, near Falcon Avenue.
