A new set of play structures and sitework were approved by city council for the Fireside Park on the west side of the freeway around 262nd, in Wyoming.  

Fireside Park play area bid was awarded to St Croix Recreation by the Wyoming city council unanimously last week. There were six quotes that came in.

The St Croix Recreation package was about $71,000.

City staff reported the offer is a great deal because the items have been set up once, at a trade show but must be considered “used” so Wyoming is getting nearly untouched equipment for a used purchase price.

The city parks group did a mail survey of neighborhood property owners and identified what was most desired for park amenities and the ages needing attention, which ended up being 2 to 12 years old.

Wyoming will make the purchase using funds from the charitable gaming account which is built through a percentage of total contributions related to licensed gambling operations.

The old equipment is being removed by a company that disposes of this type of product at no charge, and retains any recyclable value.

The council meeting was less than 30 minutes and  other matters involved:  County Commissioner Ben Montzka told the council the Highway 8 reconstruction plans are nearing the final phase where municipal approvals will be sought.  The city will be asked to give a final review in about two weeks, Montzka advised.

The Board of Appeal & Equalization is being held at the Wyoming Library April 15, council was reminded.  The hearing starts at 6 p.m.  This is the opportunity for property owners to debate their valuations that will apply for calculating taxes the following year.

Winning Medallion hunter was Emily Raddatz. She found the little treasure in Swenson Park under the bleachers by the rink.  The medallion is hidden and clues are released daily, in this hunt scheduled over every spring break, when the Forest Lake School District takes time-off.
