Memorial Day weekend is here

This weekend is Memorial Day weekend and if you take a look at the middle of this edition of the County Press you will see two pages of Memorial Day events held by local Veterans around the county.  They take time out of their busy schedules to hold Memorial Day services for you and me.  Almost every cemetery has a service so you can attend, at a time that’s convenient for you.  This is our chance to remember those family members, friends and community members that have given their lives for our great country and the very least we can do is come out and show our respect.  The services are usually quite quick because they have so many to perform during the day.  I will see you out there.

We always try to have a family gathering at some point on Memorial weekend but it seems lately there has been a run of blah weather.  As I write this, we are in the midst of getting two or so inches of rain. Let’s hope this is getting out of its system and we have good weather for a change.

Thanks to all who recently donated clothing to the homeless and the battered women’s shelter. I am supposed to pass along a huge thanks from the shelters to you.  We are still taking donations, but we do ask that you keep your winter garment donations until fall. We just don’t have the room to store them here at the Press and the shelters don’t either.  So spring/fall/summer clothing is very much welcome and as always underwear and socks are really appreciated.

Just a quick reminder about our local community meal.  Serving is every Monday from 4-6pm at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at 28005 Old Towne Road in Chisago City.

There is no charge for the meal and reservations are not required.

The community meal began in 2011 as a truly community effort.  It is eaten by, served by, funded by, hosted by, and run by the people of the Chisago Lakes area.  The board consists of representatives from Zion Lutheran, Chisago Lake Lutheran, Trinity Lutheran, and First Methodist Churches.
