Recycling, apology and crow

This weekend, Mark and his crew at AAA Recycling will be holding their annual fall clean up and recycling event in Center City.  The event is Saturday and will run from 8am to 2pm and is always held in the lower parking lot of Chisago Lake Lutheran Church.

This is your chance to declutter before putting all of your stuff into storage for winter.  They accept most everything for a small fee. You can see a list of items accepted on Page 6 in this Press.  They accept cash, checks and Venmo.

I went out to take photos of the Sunrise School House getting moved Thursday.  The school house is being relocated to the Threshing Show grounds a few miles east of where it was located.  Sunrise Township has built a beautiful new town hall and has no use for the school house.  What an amazing sight that was... watching the movers as this gigantic building floated ever so slowly down Highway 95.

A week or so ago, we ran a spread featuring photos from this year’s Shafer Days.  I mistakenly misspelled the Grand Marshal’s name in the cutline.  Instead of naming Ron Elfstrom, I wrote Ron Elfstrand.  I apologize to the Elfstroms whose family has lived here since 1885.  Ron served on the Shafer Franconia Fire Department for over 30 years.

This past weekend, my wife and I took a small trip to Chippewa Falls.  We have been through the town before but never spent any time there.  What a super quaint, very walkable town they have.  It’s an old river town, so the downtown sits along the Chippewa River making for some beautiful views.  We had a great time and enjoyed some tasty food as well as good drinks.  We decided to rent e-bikes since the area is filled with miles and miles of trails.  This is where I eat crow. I have a decent amount of friends who have joined the e-biking community. I admit I enjoyed teasing them about just how much (or little) they truly did exercise when they told us about how far they went this day or that day.  Sometimes when we walk our dog, we are passed by e-bikes and some of them are doing absolutely zero pedaling.

We rented assist e-bikes meaning we had to pedal. Yes you can choose how much assistance you get but ultimately you have to pedal to move.  Well after a 35 mile bike ride, our legs were jello.  I can’t remember being that tired from a regular bike ride. The difference is this time we went an extra 30 miles.  I am hooked.

Come on out to the Almelund Fire Hall this Saturday for their annual Fire Prevention Open House.  It’s a great chance to meet those men and women who protect our homes and say thank you!
