Chisago City events Falloween and haunted trail re-imagined this year
With about two decades of Halloween season community events under their belt— the Chisago City Parks Board, city staff and volunteers have decided now is a good time for giving a total reboot to the October community events.
The Camp Ojiketa Falloween celebration; unscary, daytime fun that was wildly popular; is still being offered in a down-sized version.
Its location is moving too.
Doris Zacho, city parks superintendent said there will be a petting zoo, scavenger hunt and trick or treating on site in Moberg Park, located on Highway 8 where the caboose is.
Details such as specific times for activities, etc. are still coming together, so watch this paper and Facebook/ Chisago City to get updates. Families can enjoy Moberg Park displays and exhibits at their leisure starting sometime around the middle of this month.
The “haunted” event that attracted night time revelers is discontinued.
The Ojiketa Haunt including the woodsy trail and props, are being retired after 16 years.
Zacho stressed that the volunteers and city staff went above and beyond in putting this two-weekend fall event together. But— “Those directly impacting the implementation of design and lightning, electrical” found the demands on their time and resources beginning to mount.
She added the deciding factor was last spring when a sewer line in Camp Ojiketa froze and Strom Hall suffered a sewer backup.
“This led to the flooding of the haunted house and subsequent removal of temporary walls, and damaged most of the (haunt) decor,” she stated.
“We thank all who have volunteered in the past with our events and those who attended. We look forward to what this season will bring. Have a great fall and Happy Halloween,” she concluded.
