Tragedy is a time for support

The tragic news that took place on early Saturday morning has shook our community.  The community and more importantly two families have lost their sons because of this awful event.  Social media has been on fire since the crash and I am happy to say most of it (unlike normal) has been positive.  There are some pointing fingers and accusing this person or that person.  This is not the time for that, this is the time to rally around these families to show love and support.  The pain they are going through is absolutely unimaginable.

Being a father of two young adults who were that age not so long ago, I couldn’t imagine such a horrific event.  My heart hurts for these families as does many of yours I’m sure.  There are some wonderful fundraisers currently on the Chisago Lakes Area Community Facebook page.  They have links to all five families to help with hospital costs and sadly funeral costs.

Please keep the families and the boys in your prayers as they try to navigate this monumental crisis.

Thanks to all of the businesses who took part in the downtown trick-or-treat last Friday.  The streets were absolutely lined with kids all dressed in their Halloween costumes.  We lucked out and had a beautiful day on Friday which made the event that much better!

We live on the lake (oh - good for me) and this year we have something on our lift and dock that we have never seen before.  all over we had these gigantic (some were 14 inches wide) gelatinous sacks attached to our stuff.  They are clear with little dots all over the place.  absolutely disgusting looking.  Thinking our lake maybe had some type of toxic leak that is slowly morphing into some type of swamp monster, I decided to google it.

It turns out to be Freshwater Bryozoans which tiny aquatic invertebrates that live together in a single gelatinous colony.  All on our dock and lift...yuk.  It is a sign of a healthy lake.  It might be the grossest looking thing I have ever touched.

Reminds me of lutefisk.
