North Branch council ok’s land use amended map for indoor cannabis
A request to amend the North Branch city comprehensive land use plan was approved last week 4-0 with Patrick Meacham absent, allowing for an indoor cannabis cultivation operation. The site on Evergreen Avenue is on the border with Stacy and involves 40 acres, currently supporting Greenworld Greenhouse. The action was defined as “reguiding” the land use, by city planner Nate Sondrol.
He explained the map needed to be amended and zoning changed as well to Agriculture, from Rural Residential, because indoor cannabis cultivation is only an allowed use in an ag district. The planning commission had recommended the request and nobody spoke at a hearing and the parcel is basically surrounded by other ag uses, Sondrol added.
A dog grooming home based business was also permitted to Julie Nordquist on Ash Street.
New library flooring was awarded to Monarch, for $11,403, as the lower of two quotes the city received. The carpet is being replaced with vinyl.
A bench donation was accepted for Wildridge Park, which will be the third bench Delaine Rebeck has donated.
Mayor Kevin Schieber mentioned there is a vacancy on the planning commission. Residents are invited to look on the website for information. He said interviews are underway to fill a vacant seat on the city EDA. And, he made mention of the loss of military members in the service of our country in Afghanistan, and dedicated the pledge of allegiance that evening to those who served.
Eagle Scout candidate Christopher Capaul received a certificate of appreciation for his Riverwalk Park Eagle project. (See photo.). The dome structure, walkway and bench pad were. part of the work done.
