Walk With Animals relocates to Paradise Park
Northwoods Humane Society has switched location of the major fundraiser for the organization. The “Walk With the Animals” event relocates to Paradise Park this fall and is not at Lent Township Hall. It will be Saturday, September 13.
The walk is more than just what its name implies. There are vendors, silent auction items, pet supplies/toys, a raffle and bake sale goods to help raise funds for the local domestic pet rescue and adoption organization. The report to the national association for 2024 showed 1,289 animals were taken in and cared for by Northwoods on their way to their forever homes. These were strays, owner-surrenders and transfers from other regions. The society’s main facility is on Highway 8 just east of Forest Lake and they also utilize foster homes for the animals in-process. It is run by a volunteer Board of Directors and has a few paid staff for managing, supervising and organizing operations.
Northwoods Humane Society has had a couple of years in the red, budgetwise, and the public’s support is very important to help the financial picture. In 2023 the group had a loss of $117,642 and, in 2022 the expenses were $30,000 more than revenues.
The Paradise Park walk site is on Chisago Lake, east of Lofton Avenue lights, across the road from the skatepark and ice rinks at Chuckie Lundquist Park. Bring your pets and join the walk or just come buy some homemade banana bread or brownies and bid on silent auction donations. The park is reserved from 10 a.m. to about 2 p.m. for the event. Walkers will head out on the route at 11 a.m.
