This weekend the city of Shafer would like to invite you and your family to the annual Shafer Days event.  The celebration is Friday and Saturday and absolutely everyone is invited.  The weekend kicks off with Bingo at the fire hall at 6pm.  Food and  beverages will be available for purchase.

Shafer Saloon finishes the night with karaoke starting at 8:30pm.

Saturday the day is filled with all kinds of events.  The Shafer Franconia Fire Department will host their annual pancake breakfast that runs fro 8am to noon at the fire hall.  

At 9am, the clues for the hidden clog will be posted at city hall and at the car show head table.  Find the clog, take home some cold hard cash.  

Beginning at 10 am, you will see vintage cars lined up and down the downtown for Shafer’s very popular car show.  

Also along the road will be local vendors including some great food trucks.  Ole’s Crossroads will host a bags tournament at 11am, and at 12:30 pm, there is the re-enactment of the famous bank robbery. Watch as ‘actors’ relive the episode in local history when the only bank in Shafer was robbed at gunpoint.

Kids will enjoy a petting zoo as well as kids games, hay wagon rides, and a fire demonstration by the fire department which follows the bank robbery.

There is a kids’ treasure hunt at Crossroads at 2:30pm and the Chisago Lakes Ukelele Band will play at the fire hall at 2:30 as well.  

The Shafer Days parade will meander through mainstreet in town at 4pm beginning at Shafer Meadows.

The weekend wraps up with bands at both the Saloon and Crossroads.  

Plenty to do and the weather is supposed to be beautiful - see you out there!

As we sat  Monday evening staring blankly at our television screen, a familiar feeling washed over us.  “You have got to be kidding me - we are going to lose to the Bears?”  

I will admit, there were a few minutes where I contemplated heading to bed but being a lazy person, I stayed for a few more minutes.  Wow am I glad I did.  

That was an incredible comeback in a hostile stadium.  There is the glimmer of hope shining in this sports abyss.  Just beat the Pack - that’s all I ask.
