Apple Fest time this weekend
What a great weekend we had for Shafer Days. Except for a little rain on Friday evening, the weather couldn’t have been any better. Downtown Shafer was buzzing with people all day Saturday with a massive car show lining mainstreet. I don’t know how many of you took the time to visit Shafer City Hall on Saturday, but they had one of the best historical displays I have ever seen. They had the entire council chamber displaying hundreds of historical items from photos to letters, even plat books. The room also featured a video produced by Jack Doepke that was all about Shafer and its history.
The entire event was great this year, and I salute the Shafer Days Committee and all of the volunteers that made this year’s show so great.
This weekend is one of our favorites, at my house. Almelund invites you and your family to the annual Apple Fest on Sunday. It begins at 11am and runs until 4pm. You will find everything including apple desserts, pie ala mode, apple butter, Swedish sausage on a stick and so much more. Don’t forget to go home with a fresh peck of delicious apples from one of our local growers.
There is entertainment all day long, as well as a school house museum, rustic log cabins to tour, model-T rides, old fashioned B & W movies in the barn, a petting zoo and much more. The event is always free and they do remind you there is no ATM on site nor are dogs allowed at the event.
It was just a week ago I was writing about the Vikings and how maybe, just maybe they have turned the corner. Then Sunday night’s game happened and I was transported back to all of those 7-9, 6-10 years. Our shiny new quarterback was literally running for his life the entire game. If our offensive line situation doesn’t improve it will be a long, long fall.
We just delivered a load to the homeless shelter and once again you made a difference. This was one of the largest donations we have made to date.
I do have some updates about donating. My contact for the metro battered women’s shelter is personally moving to Wisconsin, they will let me know if and when they will be taking items there in the near future. That means until I hear otherwise, we will not be taking children’s clothing. We are also (as hot as it is outside) now in need of warm weather clothing for the homeless. So no need for shorts, tank tops and sandals. As always thank you so much for giving!
