Chisago County District 1 Commissioner Jim Swenson announced this week he will not be on the ballot for re-election in November.  His plan is to finish out his  term which ends the last day of 2026.

Swenson has represented the city of North Branch, which comprises all of district one.  He was sworn-in January 2023.

Previously North Branch was divided amongst three county board districts and represented by three commissioners on the Board.  

The County Board has five total commissioners.  Swenson, Chair Rick Greene and Marlys Dunne are also in terms that expire December 31, 2026.

Swenson stated he has enjoyed the past 10 years of his public work, having been elected to offices on the North Branch City Council, approximately two terms as mayor and on the County Board. He was not specific but said he will “continue to advocate for his North Branch constituents.”  He commented that the past couple years have been trying personally and since regaining his health there are goals outside of the county board he is excited to tackle.
