Municipal, school board filings close
The filing period for municipal offices and school board positions closed at the end of day July 28 and there appears to be great interest in a couple races, but mostly the election in November will be incumbents or possibly even write-in candidates.
According to the Secretary of State office database:
The City of North Branch has two candidates running for mayor— incumbent Kevin Schieber and Shawn Williams. One incumbent council member, Jim Ibinger, filed, and newcomers Tom Davis and Pete Johnson also filed for council.
There is no ballot this year for mayor in the City of Wyoming but two city council seats expire. and four have filed. Incumbent Dennis Schilling, Jodie Witte, Jessica Bergan and Andrew Perry.
The City of Chisago City saw repeat mayoral candidate Travis Petschl filing to run against incumbent mayor Jeremy Dresel. Incumbent council members Nikki Battles and Craig Meyer filed and Grant Trenton Prentice is also running for a council seat.
One person filed for the vacated mayor seat in the City of Shafer, Nick Brehm. The incumbent mayor is seeking a county board seat. There are four filing for the two city council seats on the ballot: Patty Mattson, Matthew Berglof, Kathy Johnston and Nelce Sluka.
In Stacy, Mayor Mark Utecht filed for re-election and has no challenger. Jeff Barrett filed for re-election to council and Andrew Nyblom for Ward 1. (See ward map on page 2)
In Center City Jill Behnke filed for one of two city council seats along with Lloyd Vetter and Martin Ziegler. Sally Swanson filed to be mayor, which Behnke opted not to run for.
In the City of Harris Mayor Randy Carlson filed for re-election and is not challenged. For council, Allen Siedow and Garrett Pearson filed.
Rush City has a race for mayor with Paul Allen and Alan Johnson filing. Two filed for council: Frank Storm, Diana Flaten and Wayne Farr and Sarah Albrecht for the special election seat.
In Taylors Falls Robert Bayer filed for mayor, along with Geri Annonsen. The incumbent mayor announced he would not be seeking another term. No incumbent council members filed and the names on the ballot will be Khrissy Linnerooth and Jeremiah Burnham.
Lindstrom Mayor Judy Chartrand filed for re-election and Mike Hilber and Brian Norelius are seeking another council term and not challenged.
Nessel Township is the stand-alone township with election day held in November. Running in Nessel are: Douglas Johnson who is not opposed, and a special election has Joe Heidelberger as the lone candidate. The third seat on the town board is being sought by Branden Mell and Sharon Kleinsasser.
North Branch School Board candidates are: the three incumbents Sarah Grovender, Adam Trampe and Jesse LaValla.
Chisago Lakes School Board incumbents Sarah Aadland and Jen Penzenstadler filed and incumbent Josh Soderlund did not. Aaron Olson and Amy Forkner are also running for a seat.
