This long winter is taking a toll

What a relief it was to finally see the sun and have above zero temperatures this week.  This “deep freeze” is starting to mess with all of our attitudes and dressing in six layers is getting old.  Even our dog would just look at us when we asked him to go for a walk.  Only 43 more days until spring.  It can’t come fast enough.

This weekend we were out for a very brisk walk when I heard the tailpipe of a loud truck. While that noise is nothing new, it was louder than usual. I looked out onto the ice of South Center Lake to see a pretty nice pickup truck driving at a high rate of speed.  Honestly he must have been going close to 50.  A smart man who worked for the DNR once told me that traveling fast in a vehicle on ice is not a smart idea.  He said it can cause waves under the ice that in turn can weaken the ice you are driving on and could lead to a vehicle breaking through the ice.

As I wrote about last week.   Celebration of the Lakes is in just one week.  There are so many events to take in I could write a quarter page just about all of them.  We will have a big spread in the next Press that will lay the event out and allow you and your family to plan.

There are, however, a few events that you should know about this week.  The Loon will host Taste of Chisago Lakes on February 12 from 6-9pm.  Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Friday and Saturday evening, Winehaven hosts a murder mystery that you can take part in.  Go to winehaven.com to register.

Gustaf’s Eatery will host a sweetheart dinner from 5-8pm at their beautiful restaurant Saturday evening.  Also on Saturday Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City will once again host their annual lasagna dinner from 4:30pm to 6pm.

Saturday, at the Wildcat Center, you are encouraged to sign up for the annual Celebration of the Lakes pickleball tournament which begins at 8am.  There will also be a cribbage tournament at the Wildcat Center from 4-7pm.

I am pleased to announce the Chisago Lakes Lions Club will be hosting their annual fishing tournament Sunday on North Center Lake.  The contest runs from 1-3pm and there are some great prizes to be had.  If you are driving out there, simply enter the lake at the North Center boat landing and it will take you right to the tournament.

Lots to take in, but that’s the beauty of the Celebration of the Lakes, you are free to come and go as you please.  See you out there!
