Highway prep starts

There is a powerline pole-structure on Highway 8 that has to be relocated before the highway improvements begin in earnest. If you notice activity at Juno Court/James Avenue in coming months the powerline is not being affected, but the pole must be moved.  Xcel does not expect to have to halt power for the project.

The monopole relocation carries an estimated price tag of $253,000.  The relocation and demo of the old foundation are scheduled to last for one week.  The start date was undetermined,  but will be at least four weeks from now.

Xcel Energy and highway engineering design team SRF got the okay last week from the Chisago County Board for the project.  Chisago County, as a lead agency, was asked to cover the engineer costs of $30,000 up front, using  grant funds that are earmarked for Hwy. 8 Wyoming city-to-Karmel Avenue reconstruction.

The structure needs to be moved to provide enough room for grading requirements along the upcoming future four-lane highway route.  The tubular steel pole will be set on a new pier (still on the south side of the corridor) and the existing foundation will be removed below grade.
