What a great weekend Taylors Falls and St. Croix Falls had for Wannigan Days. Was it hot? Isn’t every day lately? That didn’t stop everyone from coming out to have some fun.

Thanks to all the volunteers who put many, many hours in to make Wannigan Days so fun.

If you missed Wannigan Days for some reason, don’t worry.  Center City would love to have you visit this weekend. This is the 175th anniversary of Center City and they want to celebrate with you at Center City Days.  Beginning on Friday, you will find a giant rummage sale at the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church all day.  The annual kiddie parade will work it’s way from the church to Water Tower Park at 5:45pm which will roll into a wonderful community picnic.  There will be hot dogs and brats, they do ask you to please bring something to share.  After the picnic, head down to the firehall to play community cash bingo,  There will be hot dogs, popcorn, pop and beer available for purchase.

If you are a runner or walker, come run in the CCFD Firefly 5K run/walk.  Registration begins at 7:15am at the fire hall.  The race starts at 8 and the kids run starts at 8:45am.

There will be a vendor fair as well as kids games all day Saturday behind the post office.  There is a cribbage tournament at Jake’s on the Lakes from 11am-2pm. Search for the missing lutefisk at 1pm with clues posted at the tent every hour.  Chisago Lake Lutheran church invites all to a free community pig roast from 4-6pm.  The grand day parade will start at the government center at 6pm.  The day caps off with the popular street dance at 8:15pm with the band China Rider.

Sunday the fire department holds their annual pancake breakfast from 8-noon.  There will be cloggers at the tent at 11am.  There is a great car show in front of Marine Dock and Lift at 11am.  and a historical open house at City Hall from 2-4pm.

If you have been out on any of the local lakes lately you certainly have seen the disturbing amount of dead, large Northern Pike and Walleye floating all around.  This is what I have been told is the reason.  It is not due to people spraying for weeds rather our lakes recently had weeds (curlyleaf I think) drop as they normally do. When they decompose they release CO2 which in turn competes with oxygen in areas such as shallows.  Certain fish feed in those areas so when they go to hunt, they in essence are suffocated and die. Our lakes are relatively warm right now which also adds to the fish survival problem.
