Milt and Gwen Patrick have undoubtedly touched many lives in their 55 years residing in Stacy— which was  actually Lent Township when they settled on their spread, just shy of five acres. The parcel was part of a larger tract that used to be a tree farm, but a few  damaging fires sparked by  passing trains (formerly on the Sunrise Prairie Trail route now) put an end to that commercial operation.

The two had no children but they certainly got out and about in the community.  Gwen’s involvement in a homemakers’ club raised money for a variety of family services and Milt was part of a saddle club, and worked mounted patrol at the state fair.  He was also employed by a horse veterinary practice for about four years and has been around horses his whole life.  They both worked for Forest Lake school district.  He was a custodian for 10 years and Gwen was employed 38 years.  Gwen also volunteered at a senior center. 

Readers might remember  the ladies’ group and their 'confetti bowl’ with hundreds of rolled up pieces of paper tissues with a prize printed on them. You could scoop out 12 for a dollar and win some good stuff.  The proceeds went to shelters and local programs.

Gwen describes Milt as the homebody of the two now.  She still holds a part time position at Lewis Chiropractic because she dislikes the thought of being at home all day every day, she says. “I like to be out with people.”

The Grand Marshal selection is an honor, Gwen  added.  They were definitely not expecting to be asked and Milt joked that the others on the list must have said no.

The parade is Saturday, with line-up at noon at St John’s Church and then, when everybody is ready, they step off onto the county road and head through the four-way stop,  past Lions Park to the west.
