Wyoming City Council okays cannabis requests, hires Community Service Officer
Two applications related to recreational cannabis businesses came before the Wyoming City Council and were approved. The grow operation approved earlier for 269th Street was allowed to add two greenhouses. No retail is being allowed on this site.
And, the cannabis shop “Happy Daze” was approved for the old Hult survey company building at Greenway on Highway 8. A few weeks ago a different business was approved but city staff said the applicants for that permit couldn’t get the business up and running and are not using the authorization. Council was advised that under state law a city the population of Wyoming is eligible for at least one recreational cannabis business.
The vote was 5-0 despite Mayor Iverson commenting how “disappointed” she is that the applicant has not participated in meetings in person.
This is an interim conditional use permit which expires if the person holding the permit is no longer operating the business.
There was a rezoning of the acre lot next to Blue Sky Animal Hospital to make it better conform with the other property it is proposed to be rolled into. The parcel went from commercial to mixed use zoning.
And, council okayed hiring Benjamin James for the vacant Community Service Officer position. Start wage is $23.07 and he is expected to begin June 15, according to Chief of Police and Public Safety Director Neil Bauer.
In an open public forum there was some back and forth with a resident living next to the Diamond Ridge development. He said the new layout calls for there to be a residential lot and a dead end and not a through street— and he was concerned his property is the closest direct route to a park now. Staff assured him they would look at access potential and get back to him.
