Hamline Elite Meet

The Hamline Elite Meet brings together the best high school track and field athletes in the state for a premiere midseason event. Two Wildcat track athletes were invited to last Friday’s Hamline Elite Meet – Annika Hall in the 1600 meter run and Mariana Cooksley in the shot put and the discus. Cooksley finished ninth out of the 12 participants in the shot put with a throw of 36’6.75”, and she finished eleventh out of 12 participants in the discus with a throw of 97’1”. Hall, still on her way back from an injury, finished 14th out of 16 participants with a time of 5:11.61.

Another thrower of local interest, Alexis Fahey of Forest Lake, won the discus with a throw of 150’2”.

Boys

Not surprisingly, the throwers led the way for the boys. William Pearson won both events. He took the top spot in the shot put with a personal best throw of 48’3”, 10 inches ahead of second place Everett Otte. Pearson also came in first in the discus with a throw of 129’2”, 18 inches head of second place Charles Boarman. Lincoln Battles won the pole vault with a vault of 10’6”.

The Wildcats had a number of second place finishes that helped to boost their team score: Jacob Grabow in the high jump, Cohen Underhill in the long jump, Caiden Bonds in the 200-meter dash, and Evan McGonigle in the 400-meter dash. Underhill, Grabow, Bonds and Ieuan Bailey teamed up for a second-place finish in the 4x100 relay. Bailey, McGonigle, Bonds and Samuel Heaser finished third in the 4x200 relay. Bailey also finished fourth in the 100-meter dash.

Girls

Rowan Klinkner and Madison Eagle were the top contributors for the Wildcats girls at the meet. Klinkner won the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 27.79 seconds. She also ran the leadoff leg for the 4x100 meter relay team. Klinkner, Aavry Freborg, Alexandra Bartz and McKaylie Malek won the event with a time of 53.27 seconds. Klinkner anchored the team that won the 4x200 meter relay in a time of 1:55.17. Malek, Mariah Cave and Kianna Osmundson made up the rest of the winning 4x200 team. The versatile Malek, the Wildcats’ top hurdler, took the day off from the hurdles to run relays at Pine City, running in the 4x400 in addition to the 4x100 and 4x200.

Eagle won both throwing events. She came out on top on the shot put with a throw of 35’1” and prevailed in the discus with a throw of 107’2”. And in addition to running a leg of the victorious 4x100 relay, Bartz finished second in the long jump with a personal best leap of 14’10.75”. She had another personal best in the 100-meter dash, coming in fourth with a time of 13.77 seconds. Mataya Malek ran personal bests in both hurdle events. She finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.39 seconds and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 55.55 seconds. Hannah Kray came in fourth in both throwing events, and Lily Zbylet came in fourth in the triple jump.
