Lots to do (eat) this weekend
There are a few events for us to partake in this weekend. Saturday afternoon/evening the Taylors Falls Fire Department invites everybody to come enjoy their super popular Smelt Fry. Held at the Taylors Falls Fire Hall (637 First Street), the event runs from 4 - 7:30pm. The meal includes smelt (if you haven’t tried it you have to!), beans, french fries, coleslaw, rolls and a beverage.
The cost of the meal is $20 for adults and $5 for kids. If you think that is a bit steep, you have to see just how much food they give you. It also serves as one of their largest fundraisers of the year so think of this as great food for a great cause. This is their 81st year, I hope you can make it.
Saturday before you head to Taylors Falls for a belly full of smelt, Mark Nelson and his crew at AAA Recycling will hold their first recycling event of the spring. This will take place in the lower lot at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City. If you are trying to declutter your house, garage or garden shed, this is your chance to rid yourself of clutter for a very reasonable cost. They have a list of the items they accept in their ad on page 4 of this Press. The event runs from 8am to 2pm.
On Sunday, May 3, the Chisago City Fire Department invites everyone to their annual free pancake breakfast. It’s a chance for the public to touch base with the firefighters of Chisago City and enjoy a great meal while doing so. The meal runs from 8am to noon and the fire hall is located at 29492 Karmel Avenue (between Winehaven and Lakeside Elementary School.
Dean Trippler, who served as one of the Chisago County Press editors in long-ago years has sadly passed on. I was fairly young when Dean worked here but when I did see him, he was so nice. He was a man of many traits and leaves behind a daughter and grandkids. Rest in Peace Dean you will be missed by many.
