Wyoming Council awards 2026 streets bid
The vote was 5-0 last week to award the Wyoming 2026 phase of multi-year street improvements to North Valley contractors, as the low bid of six received. Bids ranged from $1,358,926 to $1.6 million.
Work begins as soon as school is out at Wyoming Elementary, where much of the work zone is situated. Completion is fall of 2026.
The surface will receive a mill and overlay, curb and walkway repairs will be part of the project and drainage issues addressed. The assessment hearing is scheduled for October. Affected parcel owners will get a notice.
Streets included are: Freeport from 259 to Forest Blvd. Trail, 258th from Freeport to Goldfinch Ave., Goldfinch itself from 259th to Goodview, Forest Blvd Circle from Forest Blvd Trail to the culdesac, Freeport from Forest Blvd Trail to the dead end and Forest Blvd Lane from Forest Blvd Trail to Freeport Ave.
The city council also approved a request for a $2,000 contribution for the Swedish Immigrant Regional Trail amenities being coordinated by Chisago Lakes Rotary. The cities along the trail, starting with Taylors Falls, are being asked to donate based on population, and the bike rack, mile markers etc. will be customized to each city’s theme selected by city officials. The local metal-crafting firm Unruly Acres is providing the products. In Wyoming’s section the logo/ theme is the stagecoach.
The remainder of the trail extras are being covered by a grant the Rotary acquired through the Chisago Lakes Foundation. The trail will be constructed as part of the Highway 8 improvements slated in the next couple years.
In response to concerns expressed at a recent council open microphone agenda segment, (story in Press April 16), the council agreed to schedule a work session on the flag matter for May 5 at 5:30 p.m. at city hall.
