Chisago Lakes Boys Golf
After a slow start in conference play, the Chisago Lakes boys golf team put together a much stronger week on the course. The Wildcats opened the season in 5th place in the conference, but quickly began to close the gap.
On April 28, the team competed at Pebble Creek in Becker and finished second with a team score of 322. Freshman Duke Parsons led the way with a 79, while Max Koch and Emmett Singer each carded 83s. Henry Phelps added an 84 to round out the team scoring. Although the finish kept the Wildcats in 5th overall, they made up valuable ground in total strokes.
The following day, Chisago Lakes traveled to Purple Hawk in Cambridge for another conference meet. Battling cold and windy conditions once again, the Wildcats delivered an even stronger performance, shooting a 319 to take first place by three strokes. Parsons continued his strong play with a 76, followed by Phelps with a 79. Singer contributed an 81, and Owen Murphy—recently moved up from JV after consistently improving—rounded out the scoring with an 83.
With the victory, Chisago Lakes moved from 5th to 3rd place in the conference standings.
“As we move into the heart of the conference schedule, the boys are starting to heat up,” said Coach John Hawkinson. “I still feel we aren’t firing on all cylinders yet, but that’s golf—not everyone will have their best every day. Kudos to the seven boys who have been contributing scores.”
Chisago Lakes Girls Golf
The Chisago Lakes girls golf team has been battling the weather early this season, with two meets canceled and rescheduled. They were able to compete in a conference meet on April 28 at The Refuge, hosted by St. Francis.
Facing a challenging course, the Wildcats finished with a team score of 430. Neve Colucci led the team with a 92, followed by Sophia Wille with a 105. Mia Alvin carded a 115, and Lorynn Tharaldson added a 118 to complete the team scoring. The performance placed Chisago Lakes 6th at the meet, while Monticello took first with a 374.
“We are working hard to get ourselves into the middle of the conference. Ideally, we would like to be in fifth overall,” said Coach Jeanne Hawkinson. “But we are going to have to work hard and come up with some of our best rounds to do it. We have a lot of meets left—there is time to improve, and we see growth every day.”
