Wildcats explode on offense
Chisago Lakes 20, Princeton 7
The Wildcat softball team piled up 27 hits, one of the greatest outputs in team history, as they crushed the Princeton Tigers 20-7 Tuesday, May 5 at Princeton High School in a game shortened to six innings because of the ten-run rule. Every hitter in the Wildcat lineup had at least two hits. Eight of the nine players also drove in at least one run apiece, and eight of the nine also scored at least one run.
The Wildcats trailed 6-3 going into the top of the fourth, when they exploded for eleven runs to take a commanding 14-6 lead. The Wildcats had 12 hits in the inning, including five doubles. For the game, Ryan Sheppeck was five-for-five and drove in five runs. Adyson Corey had four hits in four at bats, scored four runs and drove in three. Other players with three hits were Jess Dittel-Hoefler, Annika Smith, Annika Malchow and Aubrey Perry. Dittel-Hoefler also had three RBIs. Winning pitcher Perry went six innings. She allowed seven runs – five earned – on six hits, walked six and struck out ten.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s 8, Chisago Lakes 1
The Benilde-St. Margaret’s Red Knights scored four runs in the first inning and four runs in the third and went on to beat the Wildcats 8-1 Saturday, May 8 at Caswell Park in North Mankato. The Wildcats avoided the shutout when Jess Dittel-Hoefler hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Mankato East 3, Chisago Lakes 1
The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning against the Mankato East Cougars, but Mankato East rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to beat the Wildcats 3-1 Saturday, May 8 at Caswell Park. In seven innings, Aubrey Perry allowed three earned runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out seven.
Jesa Leritz singled with one out in the top of the first inning. Annika Smith flew out. Leritz raced around to third on a single by Adysen Corey and scored on a single by Rylan Sheppeck. Sheppeck was thrown out trying to steal second to end the inning. Meanwhile, Perry allowed just three total baserunners through the first five innings. But in the bottom of the sixth, the Cougars used four singles, a walk, and a hit batter to push across three runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Wildcats went 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh.
Chisago Lakes 7, Jordan 1
Pitcher Aubrey Perry allowed just four hits and Jess Dittel-Hoefler had three hits and drove in two runs to lead the Wildcats to a 7-1 win over the Jordan Jaguars Saturday, May 9 at Caswell Park in North Mankato. Perr allowed just one unearned run, walked two and struck out six.
A run-scoring double by Annika Smith and RBI singles by Rylan Sheppeck and Adysen Corey staked the Wildcats to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Annika Malchow had an RBI single in the fourth, and Dittel-Hoefler drew a bases-loaded walk and singled to drive in two more runs. Perry allowed one baserunner or less in every inning but the second.
Mankato West 12, Chisago Lakes 2

Softball Squiggles
The Wildcats (9-9) will host the Rock Ridge Wolverines this afternoon at 1 p.m. in their final home game of the season. They will head to Pamela Park in Edina to take on the Hornets at 4:30 p.m. Friday to end the regular season.
The Wildcats, currently fourth in the QRF rankings in Section 7AAA, will open the playoffs next Tuesday, May 19. If they end up with the fourth seed or better, they will play at home on Tuesday. If the Wildcats win their opener, we will have a preview of the rest of the Section 7AAA playoffs in next week’s Press.
