Pumpkins, Fire Prevention Week
This Saturday at Shafer Township Hall from 8am to noon they will be hosting a recycling day. If you missed the event at Chisago Lake Lutheran last weekend, you have another chance. Shafer Township Hall is located at 18259 St. Croix Trail (Highway 95.)
Before the drizzle started last Saturday, we grabbed the dog and visited Tom’s Pumpkin Patch just south of Lindstrom. Not expecting to see many pumpkins due to the drought we have been enduring, I was blown away to see the bumper crop they had to offer. Speaking with Tom, the owner, he said the soil this year was perfect for enduring the drought and produced some amazing pumpkins. They once again have a corn maze and all kinds of squash, gourds, corn stalks and hay bales.
This is Fire Prevention Week. Most local fire halls will be holding open houses for the public to come see the beautiful trucks and facilities. It’s also a chance for us to thank the men and women who voluntarily put their lives at risk to save our homes and businesses. It takes a special person to be a volunteer firefighter and we are lucky to have so many of them.
Lindstrom held their open house Wednesday evening.
Saturday, Almelund Fire Department and Center City Fire Department invite everyone to come to their open houses. Almelund’s will run from 10am to 1pm and will feature a lunch along with ice cream, Smokey the Bear and hourly drawings.
Center City fire Department’s open house runs from 10am to noon and will have a chili feed. There will be fire extinguisher demos, kids can spray a fire hose as well as try on firefighter gear. There will be free pumpkins given away as well as a bouncy house. Did I mention free fire truck rides?
Mark your calendars for the next Chisago Age Well Expo. October 16, at the Chisago Lakes High School. You will find over 60 vendors, a vaccine clinic, health screenings, and a vocal concert by Unexpected Company. There are also mini classes to take, including dance, art, exercise and even ukelele lessons. The free event runs from 9am to 1 pm.
