Tuesday early morning I was awakened by a noise I have not heard in ages. Thunder.  Me being the eternal pessimist, assumed that some nearby town was getting much deserved rain and we were once again getting shorted.  I could not believe my eyes when I looked at our rain guage and it read two inches.  Maybe we are turning the corner and the drought is possibly going to end for us? Maybe we left the sprinkler too close to the rain guage and fooled ourselves.  My skepticism was eased driving to work and seeing puddles in the ditch.  I will take whatever we can get at this point.  

This Friday will be 25 years since the Twin Towers attack took place.  25 years.... my goodness does life go by at the speed of light or what?.  I remember (as many of you do I am sure) exactly where I was, who I was with, and how speechless I was for the entire day.  It seems like yesterday.  That day forever changed our country, there is no other way to put it.  

There will be a special anniversary remembrance ceremony Friday evening at 6pm in Moberg Park in downtown Chisago City.  The event begins at 6pm and will honor the men and women who responded to the attack and those who lost their lives that September 11.  I hope to see you there.

Now that the State Fair is in the rearview, we can get back to what’s happening locally.  In a couple of weeks we will be enjoying Shafer Days as well as Almelund’s Apple Festival.  This weekend is HayDays and for those of you lucky enough to have snowmobiles, HayDays is a big deal.  The last snowmobile I owned was in 1986 so there isn’t much for me to do out there, but I have friends that plan their fall around the weekend.

Many of you have been so kind to donate clothing to the homeless shelter.  Many have asked us if they are taking warm weather clothing yet.  I spoke with them Sunday when I took the latest load of donations and they told me to let everyone know that as of October 1, they will be accepting warm weather clothing.  They just didn’t have the room to store them over the summer.  Thanks.
