I had the pleasure of attending Shafer Days and Almelund’s Apple Festival this weekend.  They are two of the final summer celebrations and they didn’t disappoint.  

Shafer Days had to fight the elements with rain on Friday night and cold temps on Saturday.  But people still came out to have some fun and enjoy Shafer Days.  Thanks to all who worked so hard to make Shafer Days so enjoyable.  I love the car show that lines both sides of downtown, it can take you back in time.  

Almelund held the Apple Festival on Sunday. The weather improved a little bit from Saturday, but colder temps seemed to keep the bees at bay, so that was good.   We had some absolutely amazing desserts including some turnovers and apple crisp that melted in your mouth.  Thanks to the Apple Fest committee for putting on another great festival.

The Chisago Lakes Lions have taken on a new mission: 30 beds for local children who don't have one.

They are  partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, the organization with the motto "No kid sleeps on the floor in our town." 

On November 7 at the Chisago Lakes High School, volunteers will cut, sand, and assemble sturdy twin beds. Then they deliver them and set them up in the child's own bedroom. Frame, mattress, pillow, sheets, and a blanket. A real bed, made up and ready to sleep in that night.

The beds will serve kids ages 3 to 17.

I had the wonderful opportunity to serve the Chisago Lakes Free Community Meal Monday this week at Zion Lutheran Church.  They are celebrating their 13th anniversary and over 300 people came out to celebrate with a wonderful spaghetti and meatballs meal.  Thanks so much to Matt, Emmy, LeRoy and ALL the wonderful volunteers who make the meal so very special!
