District Court Judge Trevino sentenced James Alan Johnson Monday this week for first degree premeditated attempted murder. Johnson, 73, seriously injured his wife with a hammer and a delivery truck driver intervened in the assault.  The incident happened in the Heims Lake neighborhood May 11. The driver secured the weapon and called 9-1-1 and Wyoming Police were able to respond and get medical care for the victim.

Johnson will serve 153 months and must report to St. Cloud Correctional Facility immediately.  He was granted credit for time served of 134 days.  Restitution will be determined at a later date.

Judge Trevino received  letters in support of Johnson from a daughter and from the victim, both explaining how this outburst of violence was uncharacteristic. They said Johnson was gentle and a good provider and has relatives who love him but did have concerns about recent changes in his mental state.
