May of 2003 David Robert Perez, of Boy Scout Troop #127, started his Eagle Scout project. The project consisted of refinishing the inside of the caboose in Moberg Park, in Chisago City. The project actually started last February when Perez started to look for ideas for his Eagle Scout project with help from John Pechman, city administrator. Perez had to coordinate a lot of help for his project and relied on members of Troop 127 and his family to provide the help. The project included meetings, asking for donations from area businesses, purchasing material, scheduling the project, scraping, sanding, cleaning, washing, painting and other repairs to the inside of the caboose.

The project took six months to complete. It racked up a total of 346 volunteer hours and involved many people. The total cost of the project was $618.76. The money for the project came through donations made by Chisago Lakes area businesses.
