Donald E. Ackland, age 81, of Chisago City, Minn., and Pharr, Texas, died Feb. 2, 2004.

He is preceded in death by parents, John and Minnie Ackland, and brothers: Emmett, Herbert and Randy.

He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 61 years; children: Leland (Eun Soon), Allen (Felice), Marcy Thurber (Gary), Brian, Donna Neumann (Jerry), 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers: Gordon (Marion), Harlan (Betty) and sister-in-law, Gerry and other loving relatives and many dear friends.

He served his country in WWII, in the South Pacific Theater. He began his working life as a farmer, with his wife, Dorothy, in Wisconsin. Later he worked in banking, finishing his career as president of Lake Crystal National Bank. One of his many accomplishments was originating Farm Fest USA.

A life lived with integrity, his focus was caring about and providing for family, friends and others.

A celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m., April 3, at Lindstrom United Methodist Church, 651-257-4306. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
