Clyde was born May 3, 1935, in Deadwood, S.D., to Clyde A. and Helen R. (Bess) Smith. On Nov. 14, 1953, he married Rose Marie Sirian at the Holy Redeemer Rectory, in St. Paul.
Clyde worked as plumber and custodian for 45 years. He was also the Zoning Administrator for the city of Shafer. Clyde served in the Air Force for three years where he was stationed at Fort Snelling and in Iceland. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and was “Airmen of the Month” at one time.
Clyde enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and hunting. He was a history buff and enjoyed historical things. Clyde’s favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren and writing poetry.
Clyde is preceded in death by daughter, Barbara Helen and son, Clyde Dennis Smith; three brothers: Sidney, Roger and Clifford; two sisters: Donna Smith and Mary Davidson.
He is survived by wife, Rose; three daughters: Anna (Terry) Anderson, Mary (Bill) Fjelstad and Gail (Mike) Kovacs; daughter-in-law, Terry Smith; eight grandchildren; four sisters: Joyce Miles, Dee Hesselberg, Millie Smith and Gloria Schwietzer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 29, 2004, at 11 a.m. St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, in Lindstrom, with Father Charles Brambilla officiating. Visitation from 4-8 p.m., Sunday, at Grandstrand Funeral Home, in Lindstrom, and one hour before services at the church. Memorials preferred.
