Spend quiet time with family this holiday season

What was is in the water this last weekend? I’m sure by now you have seen footage of the big boxing match, I mean basketball game on Friday night. What a disgusting, sickening turn of events. I suppose it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.

The NBA has for a long time embraced these thugs just because they can dunk a basketball. As far as I’m concerned the NBA has a ton of issues on how to get people back to enjoy the sport once again. People are not going to want to go see a game when their lives could be at risk. What’s next––instead of bobblehead night, will the NBA have a bullet proof vest giveaway night?

Sunday we learned of the St. Paul man accused of shooting eight hunters near Birchwood, Wis. He apparently was hunting on land he wasn’t supposed to. When asked to leave, he killed five people and one more died Monday from his injuries. I don’t know if it is just the rising number in our population or what, but these sick, hateful crimes seem to happen more and more.

On a lighter note, I hope you had a chance to read our 2004 Gift Guide that came out in the last Search. There are lots of ideas for some great Christmas shopping right in our back yard. Lots of time people think that you have to go to the Twin Cities to get the right presents, but in reality we have some extremely wonderful shopping opportunities right here in Chisago County.

I hope this year you will take the time to look and see what the local vendors––who are also your neighbors––have to offer. I’m positive you will be glad you did.

Also in the Gift Guide you will notice on page 2 we have a coloring contest. I encourage your children to submit their colored picture. We will be awarding prizes for the best pictures and your child will receive a candy cane just for entering the contest.

By the time you read this, you will have already hopefully enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving meal. I hope your holiday was special and you spent time with your loved ones. In this hectic time of year there is nothing better than spending some quiet time with your family.
