The Chisago County Press this week will be putting out our annual Spring Sports Preview. This will be the 26th year the Press has been highlighting the local high schools sports programs. In the preview you will find articles written about this year’s teams as compared to last year’s. You will get the upcoming schedules and comments from the coaches. Along with the sports, you will also see all the great advertisers who continuously support the youth of the area. We hope you enjoy the preview and thank Andrew Vitalis for doing a great job once again.

I see that Target has joined in on the war on meth. Monday it was announced that all over-the-counter medication that can be used in producing meth shall now be kept behind the pharmacy desk. The severity of this epidemic is finally clicking in with most everyone. I think that all these drug stores are doing a wonderful service to communities by making it harder to produce this life ruining drug. The news on Monday night said that Oklahoma restricted the sale of pseudoephedrine behind the counter over a year ago and the production of meth statewide dropped an amazing 80 percent. Hopefully we will be talking about these kinds of numbers in Minnesota soon.

Construction of the Chisago County Veteran’s Memorial will be starting very soon. It will be located at the present Lindstrom Library on the corner of Linden and Highway 8. I am very excited to see the finished product. I have seen the memorial in Iowa that the vets are somewhat replicating, and let me tell you it is beautiful. What a great idea to honor the local veterans and let the public see how special our community is and how important veterans are to us.

On Monday night I had the pleasure of meeting Webelos Pack 127. They were working on their communication badges and they couldn’t have been nicer. All of them asked really great questions and were very attentive. They say that the children are our future. Well, if these kids are any indication, I think our future looks pretty good.
