Chisago ski teams hit the slopes, have strong outings
In a dual meet, 10 skiers from each team compete in the race. Each skier is timed on two runs. The two times are combined for a total time for each entrant.
The top 10 skiers, of the 20 who compete, score points for their team. The fastest skier earns 10 points for his or her team. The second fastest earns nine and so on.
In the girls’ race, the Wildcats’ Katelyn Kinzer led Chisago Lakes racers, who finished in the first eight places.
After such a dominant victory, it is difficult to pick out individual performances. However, Wildcat head coach Dan Raedeke said, “Katy Boyer finished fifth, beating all of the Irondale girls. We have been working on several things in practice and it all came together Tuesday night. She was aggressive and skied two impressive runs.”
Chisago’s Dominick Raedeke finished first in the boys’ race. “It was the best I have seen Dominick ski. He was smooth and strong on his skis in both runs. He won time trials and was first Tuesday. .....great start,” the coach continued.
Like the girls, eight of the top 10 varsity skiers were Wildcats. Irondale gained points for the second and 10th places.
The Chisago Lakes JV teams also dominated their events. The boys won 50-5 and the girls defeated the JV Knights by a score of 39-13. The boys, led by Tim Johnson’s time (46.5), finished in the top seven and eight of 10 spots. Four Chisago girls, led by Abbey Bottjen (65.26), finished before the first Irondale JV’er.
Wild Mountain Invitational
Chisago Lakes hosted the Wild Mountain Invitational Friday, December 16. Teams from 27 schools participated in the event and results were recorded for girls, boys and combined teams.
Chisago Lakes won the girls’ event and the Wildcat boys came in third. The combined results found Chisago in second place.

Wildcat head coach Dan Raedeke was pleased with the results. Many of the state’s top teams and individuals were at the meet.
“This was a good event for us,” Raedeke said. He was especially enthused with how well Katelyn Kinzer did. “We’ve been working with Katie in practice on ‘taking a shorter line’ through the gates. It looks like it’s starting to pay off.”
