Jane Videen, 78, of Center City, formerly of Shafer, passed away Jan. 16, 2005, at Margaret S. Parmly Residence, in Chisago City, Minn.

Jane was born Dec. 31, 1926, in Taylors Falls, to Anna and Charles Bolander. She lived almost her entire life in the Shafer area. She attended Lindstrom-Center City Public Schools, graduating in 1944. Following her graduation, she began her nursing career at St. John’s Hospital, in St. Paul, Minn., where she worked for 2-1/2 years.

May 24, 1947, Jane married Vincent Videen, of Shafer. To this union two children, Diane and John, were born. She worked at the St. Croix Hospital (where she was the recipient of the Employee of the Month award) for 45 years, retiring in 2001.

Jane and Vincent were very active in promoting the Swedish heritage of the Chisago Lakes area. They were very well-known for their portrayal of Karl Oskar and Kristina at numerous local events, and even at celebrations in Sweden. After Vincent’s death, Jane continued to be involved with the American Swedish Institute, receiving their Charlotta Medal for her dedication to keeping the Swedish heritage a live. Jane thoroughly enjoyed working with the local ASI chapter, Ki-Chi-Saga, hosting many visitors from Sweden who came through the area, frequently staying in her home.

Jane tirelessly volunteered her time to many activities, including working at the Karl Oskar House, in Lindstrom, Family Pathways Thrift Shop, in Wyoming, Ladies’ Auxiliary of the VFW, numerous church committees and giving her “hat shows.” She was also known for her collections of many things, including post cards, old clothes, Swedish memorabilia and antique items of local interest.

Jane is survived by her daughter, Diane (Phil) Tague, of Denver, Colorado; a son, John (Jean) Videen, of Rice Lake, Wis.; and three grandchildren: Karina (Ty) Werla, of Chicago, Ill.; Leif Videen, of Cora, Wyoming; and Greta Videen, of Missoula, Montana.

She is preceded in death by Vincent in 1990.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at Chisago Lake Lutheran church, in Center City. Burial at Franconia Cemetery, in Franconia Township, Minn. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home, in Lindstrom.
