A solution to ending special session

A solution to ending special session
A solution to ending special session

A few people were talking the other day about our wonderful legislature and how the state might shut down the majority of state funded jobs. The courts will step in and order that certain services remain running like State Patrol, nursing homes etc., but everyone else had better plan on taking a two week vacation by using their comp time and after that they are on their own.

The gentleman we were talking to had a terrific idea. He said that they (the state) should dock each legislator $500 for each day they fail to come to an agreement. I would bet they would never push for a special session and probably agree on a budget in a timely manner. There is one huge drawback to this wonderful idea. This, of course, would have to be voted on, and do you think they would vote to take a payroll penalty? Come on legislators, we would at least like to go to a state park this summer.

As I wrote here before, the annual Relay For Life is still looking for more teams to participate in the walk. Chances are that you know or knew someone afflicted with breast cancer. This is your chance to help earn money and show your support for those who have been touched by this monster. I know we as a society have got to be very close to a cure and hopefully with our support we can round that corner and conquer this sad disease. If you would like to sign up please call Jody at 257-9366.

Last Thursday I attended Susan Wilson’s retirement party at the library. Sue has been our local librarian for over 24 years. And by the turnout of well wishers, you can tell that she truly made an impression on everyone. Personally, Sue and her family were the first people we met upon arriving in Lindstrom 26 years ago. She has always been like a second mother to me and a lot of other people too. It is going to be strange walking into the library and not seeing her beautiful smile. I wish nothing but the best for Sue and would like to say thank you.

On a different note, in the last edition of the Press, we ran a letter to the editor complaining about a certain individual in our community. I would like to apologize to you the reader for the vile words expressed by this person. You may not agree with someone’s thoughts or actions and that’s fine. But to blast someone in the manner this writer did was just plain unacceptable.
