A groundbreaking service was held at the grounds of the Chisago Lakes Evangelical Free Church Sunday, May 15, for a 24,000 square foot youth center, gymnasium and maintenance building.

The new facility will include a full-size gym, a coffee house style commons area with stage and a small kitchen. There will be a game room for ping pong, foosball and pool tables, office space, eight classrooms and a garage and maintenance area for church vans and equipment.

Pastor Ric Stanghelle said, “We envision this area being used by all age groups in the church, but especially the youth. We wanted to provide a place for the youth in our church and community to come, have fun, be with friends, play games and sports, listen to music, study and grow in their relationship with Christ.”

During the months of March and April, the church held a capital campaign to raise funds for the new facility. Pastor Ric shared, “Our goal was $1.8 million and God provided just over $2 million through the generosity of members of the church. This is an exciting time for our congregation and we are looking to the completion of this project next spring.

Chisago Lakes Evangelical Free Church is located at 29620 Olinda Trail, in Lindstrom, next to the Chisago Lakes High School area. Construction on the new facility starts this week.
