Anthony “Tony” Peter of Chisago City finished 11 seconds ahead of three-time defending champion Digger Carlson to win the men’s division of the 18th annual Fairview Lakes Health Services Lindstrom Loppet, Karl Oskar 5K Walk/Run Saturday, July 8, in Lindstrom.

Peter’s time (16.11) put him first among a record 489 participants who crossed the finish line. His time was also better than Carlson’s 2005 winning time of 16:20.

Forest Lake’s Laura Edlund was the first woman across the line. Her time, 19:40, was 14 seconds better than her second place time in 2005 and two seconds better than runner-up Rachel Charpentier of Scandia.

Proceeds of the Loppet support nursing scholarships for local students, mentoring programs in area schools, discount bike helmets and other youth-related programs.

“Sincere thanks go to the many community businesses who each year provide financial assistance, refreshments and other services to help make the race possible,” said co-chairs Carla Norelius and Leanne Roggeman of Fairview Lakes Health Services.
