Chisago Lakes cross country teams wrap up end of season with banquet
Zach Hunter, Nathan Gieske, Max Molina, Tom McGurk, Brad Johnson, Matt Carpenter, Matt Jorgenson, Tim Johnson, Danielle Vitali, Emmy Wold, Chelsea Johnson, Becca Schmidt, Makayla Grote, Laura Eastman and Julie Arnold were awarded athletic letters for their participation this season.
Team awards were also given at the banquet. Laura Eastman and Brad Johnson were recognized as Rookies of the Year. Most Improved awards went to Chelsea Johnson and Tom McGurk. Senior Awards (for participating in cross country for four years) were given to Emmy Wold, Zach Hunter and Matt Turner.
Several runners earned recognition from the North Suburban Conference. Emmy Wold earned a spot on the Academic All-Conference team. All-Conference plaques went to Zach Hunter and Danielle Vitali while Chelsea Johnson was named as an Honorable Mention runner.
Hunter deserves special recognition for his participation in the State Cross Country Meet November 4. “Zach is the only cross country runner at Chisago Lakes who has made it to state three times,” said Wildcat head coach Joy Ruce. “He was a team qualifier in 2004 and an individual qualifier in 2005 and 2006. What a great way to end his cross country career at CLHS. We are proud of Zach and we will certainly miss him next season!
“It was a great season for all the runners. We finally had a complete team for the girls this year. There were many personal records set on courses by most of the runners at each meet, including conference and sections. Even though we will be losing seniors Zach Hunter and Emmy Wold, the exciting part is the rest of the runners will return for next year. I expect a strong team next year!” coach Ruce concluded.
Congratulations to coach Ruce, assistant coach Ken Orwoll and the entire team.
