The North Branch volleyball team defeated Cambridge-Isanti 25-20, 25-20, 25-4 at North Branch Tuesday, September 5.

“We were able to get our first win of the season and also a win for our section standings.....We had all members of the team contribute. It was a great TEAM win,” said Viking head coach Kari Francis.

“The keys to the match were our serve receive passing and hitting percentage (.215). The trio of seniors, Kacie Ramberg, Megan Ranger and Tess Prouty-Kunshier lead our serve receive, which allowed us to have a successful night at the net.

“Outside hitters Ranger and Ramberg led the team with kills (9), middle hitter Megan Scherer and Meghan Kampff followed with (4). Randi Zentner had three kills. Lindsey Hilde and Hannah Franzmeier had the first kills of their careers,” Francis added.

NB 3, BSM 2

The Vikings won a close one at Benilde 18-25, 27-25, 25-13, 25-27, 15-12 Thursday, September 7.

“The first conference win was not easy on the road. BSM is a very talented team and will be one of the teams in the top half of the conference, as they were last year,” said coach Francis.

“After dropping game one, we stayed together and won a close second game and built on that momentum to take game three. Losing a heartbreaking game four was tough, but the team stayed together and won a close game five. We showed great composure and team chemistry in the face of adversity on the road. This win will help build character/confidence for the next time we are in a game five,” the coach continued.

Ranger led the Vikings with 17 kills. Ramberg (13), Scherer (10), Kampff (5) and Zentner (5) were next. Cori Fairbanks had 47 assists for the night.

North Branch is at St. Louis Park tonight and will host its invitational tournament, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 16.
