2007 Chisago Lakes Triathlon was all about the kids
July 28, 2007, almost 400 kids, ages 3 to 12, took to the water, streets and trails to make the second annual event an even bigger success. A clear blue sky, comfortable temperatures and less humidity made the experience even more enjoyable than the 2006 event.
As in 2006, Peter Maring was the first runner across the finish line. In 2006, he won the 11-12 year-old division as an 11 year-old. This year, he returned for his second CL Triathlon (and third overall) with the goal to win.
The race has become a real family event for the Marings. His parents, Kim and Tim and several siblings made the early morning trip from rural Harris to cheer him on. A number of other young relatives were also there, including three nieces who were participants, according to Tim Maring.
Gilly Mangan was the first girl to complete the course. The 12 year-old Maple Grove runner is a veteran of 15 triathlons. She finished third among the girls in last year's CL Tri. She was pleased, but calm, after the win, as if she expected to win.
