CL 4, Robbinsdale Cooper 3

Arial Novak's goal early in the third period broke a 3-3 tie with the Robbinsdale Cooper Hawks, and the Wildcats rallied behind seventh-grade goaltender Jamie Dobosenski, who stopped all seven shots she faced in the game, to beat the Hawks 4-3 last Friday, January 5 at New Hope Arena.

The Wildcats got on the board with just over four minutes remaining in the first period. Some nice passing by the Wildcats got the puck to Rhiannon Sauter, who went to the slot and fired a nice wrist shot into the upper right hand corner to put the Wildcats up by one. Morgan Baumgard and Ariel Novak picked up assists on the play.

The Wildcats scored again with just 45 seconds left in the first period. Ariel Novak ripped a shot from the left point, and Jessica Lorr put the rebound away to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead after one period. The Wildcats scored just 24 seconds into the second period as Morgan Baumgard put in a rebound off of Samantha Lorr's initial shot to make it 3-0 Wildcats. It looked like the Wildcats, who were outplaying the Hawks, would cruise to an easy win.

But the Hawks fought back to score three goals in the second period to tie the game. Dobosenski then entered the game at the 14:23 mark of the second period. The Wildcats scored very early in the third period, as well. Nice puck movement from Sauter to Baumgard got the puck to Novak at the left point. She walked to the high slot and fired a shot into the lower left hand corner. The Wildcats held the Hawks off the board for the rest of the period and emerged with the 4-3 win over the Hawks.

"Jamie did well for her first time in the nets in a varsity game," said Wildcat head coach Jason Mahlen. "She was poised, calm and made the saves she needed to. It was pretty exciting for her to get her first varsity win."
