The top individual finisher for the Wildcats was Andy Willhite, who finished third of 30 divers. Other top finishes, included Tom McGurk's fourth in the breast stroke and sixth place finishes by Hunter Heggerston in the 50 freestyle and the 200 relay (John Donahue, McGurk, Kevin Roggemann, Dave Willhite).
Heggerston was eighth in the 100 freestyle and swam the first leg of the 200 freestyle relay team that finished eighth. He was joined by Brody Heggerston, Ethan Karwand, and Steve Boo. Donahue's ninth place time in the backstroke (1:00.45) established another school record in that event. The 400 freestyle relay team (B. Heggerston, D. Willhite, Boo, H. Heggerston) accounted for the final Wildcat top-ten finish by finishing 10th.
Nine Wildcat individuals and two relay teams finished events between 10th and 20th place. Jack Vasatka was 11th and Alex Vitalis 13th in diving. Roggemann was 13th in the butterfly and 14th went to Boo in the 100 freestyle and McGurk in the individual medley (IM). Boo took 15th in the 200 freestyle and Mark Eagan finished 18th in the IM and the breast stroke. The 200 freestyle relay team (McGurk, Eagan, Roggemann, Jake Spehar) finished 17th and the 400 freestyle relay (Karwand, Roggemann, Donahue, A. Willhite) was 19th.
"We were thrilled to end up in seventh place," said CL head coach Jim Sauerbry. "We had personal bests all over the place. All three relays hit season bests and Donahue (John) set another school record. It was wonderful to have a chance to swim at the U of M. It's an unbelievable facility."
The swimmers host St. Louis Park tonight, Thursday, September 25 and travel to Robbinsdale-Cooper Thursday, February 1. Both meets start at 6 p.m.
