Wildcat tennis team shows improvement in early losses
Following some weather-related early season schedule changes, the Wildcat tennis team started its season by hosting a very talented Forest Lake team Thursday, August 23. The Rangers handed the 'Cats a 7-0 defeat.
"It is always good to see Forest Lake because they are in the same section as us," said Wildcat head coach Steve Otte. "The scores for this match are very lopsided, but all of the girls came off the court feeling very good about the match. That means that all of the games went to a deuce score and really could have gone either way. The team will keep improving and hopes to have a rematch at the end of the year to see which way the match will go then."

River Falls Invite
Saturday, August 25
Due to rain, the River Falls, WI Tennis Invitational, originally scheduled for August 18, was delayed one week. The Wildcats played Woodbury in the first match.
Woodbury 7, Chisago Lakes 0
"Woodbury always brings a good squad to the invite, so the team knew it would have its hands full in this one," Otte said. "We played some good tennis, but the final results were all in favor of Woodbury."

Coach's Comments
1S Alyssa Lundberg
lost 6-1, 5-7, 2-10.
2S Gretchen Richter
lost 6-7, 1-6.
Gretchen played an awesome first set. She was down 2-5 and got the set to a tie-breaker. Gretchen hustled really well and that made a big difference.
3S Ali Turnquist
lost 3-6, 3-6.
4S Kristen Lee lost 4-6, 2-6.
1D Tracy Schneider/Kristen Dobosenski lost 4-6, 2-6.
Kristen played doubles for the first time in a long time. She has a very nice serve for the doubles game, so we thought we would try it out for one match. "Dobo" will be playing second singles most of the year.
2D Jess Olson/Megan Corradi lost 4-6, 3-6.
3D Christina Leaf/Emily Tworoski lost 6-3, 1-6, 4-10.
In the second match of the day, the Wildcats lost 4-3 to the host school.
River Falls 4, Chisago Lakes 3
"River Falls was a good matchup for the team. The match was not determined until the last point, at third singles, came off the court," Otte commented.

Coach's Comments
1S Alyssa Lundberg
lost 3-6, 2-6.
2S Kristen Dobosenski
won 6-2, 6-3.
Kristen did a great job keeping the ball deep against her opponent and that really made the difference in this match.
3S Michelle Caneday
lost 5-7, 4-6.
Michelle kept battling for points in this match. She was going to the net a lot and winning many of the points up there.
4S Gretchen Richter
won 6-0, 6-1.
Gretchen made quick work of her opponent by playing some very consistent tennis.
1D Tracy Schneider/Jess Olson lost 6-0, 4-6, 5-10.
These two played a decent match. They play well together and their strength is that they communicate very well on the court.
2D Christina Leaf/Megan Corradi lost 4-6, 1-6.
3D Jenna Dobosenski/Ali Turnquist won 7-6, 7-5.
Jenna and Ali did a nice job taking the points that they needed to. This was a very nice match for these two underclassmen.
Spring Lake Park 5, CL 2
August 30 at SLP
"The first conference match of the year was a good one. SLP brought back many of its players from last year. After a good warmup, things were off to an interesting start," the Wildcat coach said.
1S Alyssa Lundberg
won 7-5, 7-5.
Alyssa did a good job keeping the ball in play in this match. She is coming to the net more than she has in the past and I think that will pay off for her as the season continues.
2S Kristen Dobosenski
lost 6-7, 1-6.
Kristen played against a girl she knew from tennis camp this summer. Scoring went back and forth in the first set, with SLP winning it. Dobo worked hard but came up short in this match.
3S Megan Corradi
lost 3-6, 2-6.
Megan jumped to singles for this match. She did a decent job on the court but told me afterwards that she much prefers to play doubles.
4S Kristen Lee
lost 4-6, 3-6.
Kristen played a good tennis match against a good opponent. She focused on staying deep in the court and that helped her out a lot in this match.
1D Tracy Schneider/Jess Olson won 6-4, 7-6.
These two stepped up and won the important points that they needed to win the match. It was great to see that they won those points rather than letting them slip away. They did a very nice job on the court.
2D Christina Leaf/Gretchen Richter lost 2-6, 3-6.
I liked what I saw in Christina and Gretchen's play. They started using the lob to their advantage during the match. It would have been nice for many of the other players to see how well they used the lob.
3D Ali Turnquist/Jenna Dobosenski lost 4-6, 5-7.
These two played a nice match as well. Once they learn to relax and see the court better they are going to to improve a lot. You will be reading a lot about them in the next couple years.
