Wildcats earn two early wins before NB dual
Sophomore Travis Kammerer wins his 100th career match
The Wildcat wrestling team swept the Zimmerman triangular last Thursday, February 5. To open the evening, they easily defeated undermanned Rogers 62-9. In the nightcap versus host Zimmerman, the outcome was in doubt till Dylan Hoyt pinned his opponent in the evening's final match to give the Wildcats a 40-30 win.
Travis Kammerer's major decision in the 145-pound match against Zimmerman was his 100th career win. That makes Kammerer, a sophomore, only the twelfth wrestler in school history to reach 100 wins. It also makes Kammerer only the second wrestler to reach the milestone as a sophomore. The first to make it was Dan Dellwo, a 1996 graduate of Chisago Lakes High School who went on to set the Wildcat career record for wins with 154.
Against Zimmerman, the Wildcats had a commanding lead of 34-18 after a major decision by Derek Silbernagel (160) and a pin by Clay Olson (171). Pins by Zimmerman at 189 and 215 cut the Wildcat lead to 34-30 before Hoyt's win at 285 gave the Wildcats a win and a happy bus ride back to Lindstrom.
The Wildcats will have an 11-day break before their next action, the early rounds of the team section tournament. The festivities start at 5 p.m. at Hinckley-Finlayson High School in Hinckley on Tuesday, February 17.
