Roseville 2, Chisago Lakes 1

Trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Wildcats managed just one goal with five minutes left in the second half and fell to Roseville 2-1 last Tuesday, September 1 at Roseville.

The Raiders went up 1-0 in the first half when a senior forward struck a long, deep pass from midfield to the opposite side of the box. One of their players ran in and passed it across the box to a player who knocked it into the back of the net. With less than five minutes remaining in the half, David Rau sent a ball across the box to a Wildcat player's foot, but the easy shot went wide. Roseville brought the ball back down the field and played the ball across the box to a wide open player, who scored to make it 2-0 at the half.

The Wildcats got on the board with less than five minutes to go in the second half when Cameron Bouwens converted a pass from Rau. But that was the only score the Wildcats could manage as they went down to their first defeat of the season.

"We had some pretty good pressure in this one," said Wildcat head coach Mark Leigh. "But they were a very quick, strong team. If the ball went up to a forward, they could drop it back and move it to the other side very quickly. Even so, they really only had two good scoring opportunities in the game and converted them both. We had five or six good chances and ended up with just one goal. We played well against a very good team and were able to walk away from this one with our heads held high. Our guys are fighters and played hard the whole way."

After traveling to St. Anthony Village to play Spring Lake Park this past Tuesday, the Wildcats will head north to play Duluth East this Saturday at 2 p.m. in a rematch of last year's section semifinal. The game, though, is no longer a section game since Duluth East has moved up to AA this season. The Wildcats host Meadow Creek Christian next Monday, September 14 at 7 p.m., and then head to Fridley to take on the Tigers next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
