Irondale ends Vikings unbeaten streak at five

North Branch 3, Fridley 2

Behind two goals from outstanding forward Brian Grand, the Vikings achieved their goal of going undefeated through their first five games by beating Fridley 3-2 in front of a happy hometown crowd last Tuesday, September 8.

Said Viking head coach Graeme Jury, "Last year, Fridley beat us in pace, ball control and passing and really thumped us. But this year we are better and more together as a team. We also play with heart and intensity. The boys played a good game against Fridley and pushed till the final whistle with great goals from Brian Grand and Tony Ceroll. We also got another outstanding performance from the North Branch defense and goalkeeper Austin Holmes to remain unbeaten in 2009.

Irondale 3, North Branch 2

The Vikings were finally beaten this season, losing 3-2 at Irondale last Thursday, September 10. Brian Grand and Tony Ceroll each scored a goal for the Vikings.

The Vikings (4-1-1 overall, (1-1-0 conference) play tonight at Columbia Heights at 5 p.m. This Saturday they host section opponent Duluth Denfeld at 4 p.m. and remain home next Tuesday, September 22 to take on Robbinsdale Cooper at 7 p.m.
