Baumann officially announces retirement at team banquet
Finally Head Coach Bill Baumann took the podium and thanked the players, parents and fellow coaches, Schalgel and VanEerden. He went on to thank varsity assistants Gary Dreissig and Britt Baumann for all the help and advice they gave to the team.
A special thank you went out to Coach Baumann's wife Carol for putting up with everything a basketball coaches wife has to go through as well as putting together the booklets and being the score keeper on away games.
Baumann went to talk about what fine young men the team had this year as they were named North Suburban and Section 7AAA Academic Champions. He also talked about the over $6,000 raised by the boys for the Coaches vs Cancer challenge that they undertook with the North Branch girls and Chisago Lakes boys and girls teams.
Team managers Sophia Yousey, Katrina Hostetler and Abbey Carlson were presented with letters and given certificates for appreciation for all they did this year.
Conference Awards, as announced in the County Press last week, were then announced, along with the team awards and team leaders.

At the conclusion of the evening Coach Baumann made the announcement that many knew was coming; he was retiring from teaching after this year and to answer all speculation, he announced that he is also going to retire as head coach.
He again thanked everyone -- especially his wife and family -- for all the support over the last 31 years of his coaching career.
A special highlight, Baumann noted, was last year was when many former players showed up at the Cloquet game and they held a special gathering in the cafeteria afterward as he coached his last career home game.
