Born May 6, 1942 in Williamsport, PA and raised in Mahtomedi and St. Paul, MN. Richard was an enlisted member of the U.S. Navy, he proudly served as a White House guard to president Kennedy. Richard lived most of his life in the Chisago Lakes area, with a career in sales. His passions included golf, fishing, and hunting.
He is survived by wife, Darlene; daughter Kimberlee Shafer Rathsack and her husband Rob of Appleton, WI; mother Virginia Shafer of Sandstone, MN; sister Debbie Karp and her husband Charlie, also of Sandstone, MN. Richard will be missed by all for his sense of humor, kindness, and his gift for storytelling.
Come celebrate Richard's life at Grandstrand Funeral Home, Lindstrom, MN Sunday, Aug. 15. Family will receive well wishes starting at 2 p.m., with services to follow at 3 p.m. Darlene would like to invite family and friends to the Chisago Lakes Golf course for refreshments beginning at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a memorial fund at US Bank.
