Lorraine M. Hasselquist, of Lindstrom, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, at the age of 87, at Parmly Lifepointes after an extended illness.

Lorraine was born March 2, 1923 at Maiden Rock, WI to Henry and Mary Erickson. She graduated from Maiden Rock High School as Valdictorian in 1941. In 1946 she graduated from the University of Wisconsin - River Falls with a teaching degree. On July 7, 1953 she married Carl Hasselquist at First Covenant Church in Minneapolis. During her teaching career she taught in the Edgerton, WI school system, Minneapolis Schools and in the Chisago Lakes school system. She was named Teacher of the Year at Chisago Lakes in 1977. She was a charter member of Chisago Lakes Ev. Free Church that was started in 1985. She was always active in her churches as Sunday School Teacher, Youth Counselor, and in women's organizations. She also visited nursing homes and shut ins. Lorraine enjoyed following her kids and grandchildren in high school and college athletics, especially high school basketball, and was a fan of the Gophers.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Mary, sister Milly Erickson and brother Kenneth Erickson. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Carl, children Dr. MaryBeth (Peter Gammarano) Hasselquist of Seattle, Ann Hasselquist of Victoria Is., BC, Donald (Nancy) Hasselquist of Osceola, Dwight (Lori) Hasselquist of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Keith (Lori) Hasselquist of Hinton, IA, sister Imogene Erickson of Golden Valley, 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday, Dec. 6 at Lakes Free Church in Lindstrom with Pastor Ric Stanghelle, officiating. Interment was in the Kost Cemetery. Condolences may be left at www.grandstrandfh.com.
