Hazel was born December 29, 1912 in Chisago Lake Township to parents Solomon and Maria Elizabeth Johnson.
She married Arnold Swenson on June 2, 1933, and raised four children Janet, Harvey, Elvice and Tom.
Hazel worked at Twin Cities Arsenal for 6 1/2 years then at Hazelden for 7 1/2 years.
She was a lifetime member of Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City.
Hazel is preceded in death by her husband Arnold, daughter Janet, son Harvey and his wife Darlene, four brothers, two sisters and two great-grandchildren.
She is survived by daughter Elvice (Bob) Sawyer, Son Tom (Linda) Swenson, son-in-law Roger Tonsager, 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010 at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City.
Visitation one hour prior to the service at church.
Interment Chisago Lake Cemetery in Center City.
Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom.
