The Wildcats cross country team had quite the busy seven days last week.

On Tuesday, Chisago Lakes hosted their own invite, winning in both the boys and girls events. Four boys finished in the top five, led by Caleb Gieske. Gieske posted an 18:14 time, good enough for first place in the meet. Noah Rockenback finished in second place with a time of 18:30, and Andy Magnuson came in right behind him in third place with a time of 18:31.

Josh Olinger rounded out the top five with a fifth place finish in 18:56. David Arnold, Peter Tengwall and Liam Coulter rounded out the varsity scores, finishing in 12th, 13th and 15th, respectively.

In the girls event, Kaylee Ryan dominated the meet, finishing in first place with a time of 15:49. Although her teammates were almost two full minutes behind her, they still finished strong, as Katie Christy finished in fourth place with a time of 17:47. Kelsey Sorensen was right behind, finishing in fifth place in 17:51.

Ali Fuller, Liz Coulter, Madi Vukich and Hannah Saap finished out the cross country meet in seventh, ninth, 11th and 14th place, respectively.

"It was a great meet for Chisago. Boys JV and 8th grade boys won as well. We had four individual win their races as well," Head Coach Ken Orwoll said.

Swain Invite

At the annual Duluth meet at Enger Park Golf Course, the Chisago Lakes boys and girls had a good showing.

The girls finished in 15th place, sans their two best runners. Both Kaylee Ryan and Mary Cross didn't run the race. Without them, the 'Cats turned to Christy and Sorenson, who finished in 57th and 62nd place. Ali Fuller, Madi Vukich and Hannah Saap finished out the top five for the Wildcats.

"The girls had a great day at home. Kaylee ran the race by herself in a very respectful time for our course. She had an injury problem at Swain that we believe is minor. Mary Cross missed both meets due to illness," Orwoll explained. " Katie Christy and Kelsey Sorensen are very solid in the middle for us - they were our first two in at Swain -- and Ali Fuller continues to have great races in her rookie season."

In the boys half, Gieske and Magnuson cracked the top 50, finishing in 31st and 46th place, respectively. Rockenback, Olinger and Quinton Lee rounded out the top five in 55th, 61st and 86th place.

Orwoll was impressed with his athletes with the tough week that they had. "Caleb Gieske and Noah Rockenback had a great week. Both have really racing competitively and are fun to watch," he said. " It was also great to see Andy Magnuson getting some work in after missing a couple of meets. Josh Olinger is getting back on track and making this boys team much better. Quinton Lee ran the eighth grade race at home and varsity at Swain. He is turning into a very solid fifth runner for the team."
